Our Gillespie County Sheriff's Office is still getting reports from citizens who are receiving calls (some out of Cotulla, TX) that are identifying themselves as a deputy with the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office (even former deputies). The caller is telling the recipient that they have warrants for their arrest because they had missed a jury duty summons. They will then try to get the recipient to send $4,500 (or a similar figure) to cover the bond and will ask that it be converted to Bitcoin by using a Coinstar or Coinme kiosk.
No local, state, or federal law enforcement or government organization is going to call you and demand you send them money. The Gillespie County Sheriff's Office encourages anyone receiving a similar call to disconnect without providing any personal information. If you have further questions, feel free to contact the Gillespie County Sheriff's Office at (830) 997-7585 or report the scam at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov./#/.
